(un)Spring Cleaning: 5 Tips for Organizing Your Bathroom

Homestead Tenant Organizing Her Bathroom Drawers A good number of Homestead renters will find it challenging to keep the bathroom organized. However, an already neat and clean bathroom is easier to maintain — it can even improve your morning routine! Clutter can lead to feelings of anxiety or frustration. So, an organized bathroom can help you relax, instead of worrying about the things that need to be kept. Still, in order for an organized bathroom to be realized, you need to put in the time. The key to organizing your bathroom lies in the following five practical tips.

Declutter

First things first — when it comes to an organized bathroom, the key is to throw out any clutter. Many people will accumulate a lot of things inside their bathroom which will eventually become clutter. As such, it’s best practice to go through all your cabinets, drawers, or shelves, and sift through your items to determine which ones to dump. If the item is expired, it’s a no-brainer — it instantly goes to the trash. Group similar items together and take stock. Duplicate items should automatically be candidates for trash, especially when they’ve been kept and not used for the past year. And then, take the items that you intend to keep and organize them.

Categorize to Organize

After all the decluttering is done, categorizing should be a lot easier. This makes organizing so much easier. If the bathroom is only being used by you, you can categorize items in such a way that it accommodates your routine. For example, you may want to set up a shelf, bin, or drawer for your morning routine and then another for the evening routine. If the bathroom is not exclusively for your use, though, you can provide caddies for the personal items of others who use it. The caddies can then be put on a shelf or a cabinet.

Invest in Clear Storage Containers

A disorganized bathroom comes about when no one knows where things are supposed to be. To address this issue, it helps to have clear storage containers. Then, simply place your categorized items into these containers. Shallow drawer organizers can be great for keeping toothbrushes, makeup, and other small items neat. If you have taller containers, you can use those to separate certain items in shelves or cabinets.

A Place for Everything

As you re-organize your bathroom, assign each of your items to a designated place. This will prevent clutter from happening all over again. Pros will tell you that it’s a good idea to keep things off of the bathroom counter. Instead, you can use bins, drawers, and baskets for storage. Pretty basic, but very effective: label your storage containers to make your life easier.

Use Your Space Effectively

Bathrooms are often cluttered because they are small. A small space usually means more of a challenge when it comes to organizing your personal items. It’s quite possible, though, that there is some underutilized space inside your bathroom. No matter how small, it can help to organize your space. Hooks behind doors, storage containers attached to the cabinet doors, and the space above the toilet are all potential storage areas. It’s important that you know how to utilize these spaces so that you can keep your bathroom clean and organized.
